“Amy and Mike gave a great presentation to Fishing Bay Yacht Club as part of our winter speaker series. We had 75 in attendance ranging from “sailing widows” to die hard racers to gunk hole cruisers. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the talk which included stories of their journies, Q&A, and some of their wonderful songs. I highly recommend them.”

Bluewater Cruising Songinar
Maybe you’ve seen them speak/perform at the NY, Newport, Chicago or Philly boat shows or seen the articles in Chesapeake Bay Magazine, Living Aboard, Latitudes and Attitudes as well as Cruising World, or maybe you’ve seen Mike on CMT? Now’s your chance to catch Mike and Amy Aiken’s entertaining style in your yacht club’s town...let the sweet taste of cruising the islands warm your winter blues.
Mike and Amy Aiken are both licensed USCG captains with over 30,000 offshore miles each. They have made transatlantic crossings, outfitted several boats of their own for offshore cruising and supervised/consulted for many others. They currently sail and live aboard their Tayana 42 sailboat in Norfolk, VA and have also cruised extensively on a Cheoy Lee 35 and Vancouver 36. They have lectured on cruising at boat shows, yacht clubs, sailing tutorials, and were honored to be the “face of Henri Lloyd” at various boat shows over the last 10 years. Mike also happens to be a national recording artist.
The songinar is presented in a lighthearted, entertaining way. The object is to inspire the audience and help build their sailing/boating confidence through Mike and Amy’s ocean experiences. Discussions are tailored to the crowd and include a question and answer period. Mike and Amy can also tailor their program to address specific questions or situations that might be unique to your type of boating or cruising area. The stories and anecdotes are embellished with Mike’s original songs performed by Mike & Amy. The songs Mike writes and the experiences they share are rich with the stories of life, love and wanderlust. Not only the entertainer, Mike is an award winning songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist.
Mike and Amy’s enthralling stories include harrowing tales of storms off the Grand Banks, powerful squalls in the Trades, crew management, what works and what doesn’t work on long passages, Customs in foreign ports, meeting family and friends while cruising, and various other stories from their experiences in 5 Countries, 4 years, 3 chain plates, 2 hurricanes and 1 songwriter’s career ... for starters.
If there are women interested in cruising, they have always enjoyed being able to ask a woman about certain aspects of cruising that are more on the domestic side. Anything from how to keep mayonnaise to how best to stow leather shoes, how to provision, how not to have their husbands yell... all of these can be discussed.
