HILLBILLY BEACH BUM
Mike Aiken, Michael Markure

I’ve got sand between my toes
I’ve got salt air in my nose
I got my fingers wrapped around a margarita
There’s a dark haired señorita
I can see her brown eyes gleaming
I’ve either died and gone to heaven
Or I’m dreaming

Cuz’ I’m a hillbilly beach bum
Going down to get some
Put me on a southbound jet
If I’m dreaming let it take me
Baby don’t you wake me
I don’t want to face reality yet

I’m going down to Mexico
Where life floats by so slow
I’m gonna rest my weary soul in this cantina
My señorita’s by my side
I can’t wait to take another ride
I’ve either died and gone to heaven
Or I’m dreamin’

Cuz’ I’m a hillbilly beach bum
Going down to get some
Put me on a southbound jet
If I’m dreaming let it take me
Baby don’t you wake me
I don’t want to face reality yet

I’ve either died and gone to heaven
Or I rolled that lucky seven
I’ve died and gone to heaven
Or I’m dreamin’

GOOD, BAD (RIGHT OR WRONG)
Mike Aiken

Let me tell you ‘bout this cowgirl
That I met the other night
Got her horse and truck and trailer right outside
Said she likes the trail, likes to ride

Said she used to have a cowboy
Fancy free and travelin’ light
Said she’d still be with him today
But she can’t settle down and be nobody’s wife

Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not I’ll be gone
Good, bad, right or wrong
Yes it’s time to sing my song
Good, bad, right or wrong
Know it’s time to get along
Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not baby I’ll be gone

I know a man named Cap’n David
Yes he is a friend of mine
Fished for king crab in alasda
Caught those swordfish on a long long line
Then his life, it took a change yes
Like our lives, they sometimes do
Had a daughter, raised her fine
After 18 years he said Michael it’s time
He said

Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not I’ll be gone
Good, bad, right or wrong
Yes it’s time to sing my song
Good, bad, right or wrong
Know it’s time to get along
Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not baby I’ll be gone

Hangin’ out I met this banker
He just wanted to be cool
Banker’s ways, yes banker’s days
Lived in a small town, couldn’t break no rules
So I said come to the islands
Hang with me a  little while
Let it go, leave that fish bowl
He hung up that suit and put on a big smile
He said

Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not I’ll be gone
Good, bad, right or wrong
Yes it’s time to sing my song
Good, bad, right or wrong
Know it’s time to get along
Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not baby I’ll be gone

You may wonder ‘bout this story
Is there a lesson here today
You might get stuck, get into that rut
With too much work and very little play
Now I think I’ve got the answer
And I do believe there’s time
You can change things, yes rearrange things
Here’s a starting point, just say what’s on your mind
Just say

Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not I’ll be gone
Good, bad, right or wrong
Yes it’s time to sing my song
Good, bad, right or wrong
Know it’s time to get along
Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not baby I’ll be gone

Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not baby I’ll be gone
Good, bad, right or wrong
Ready or not baby I’ll be gone

90 MILES TO HEMINGWAY
Mike Aiken

90 miles to Hemingway
Tradewinds on the beam
Strolling on the Malecón
Always been my dream
Cuba by the morning light
Havana streets at night
90 miles to Hemingway
If I leave Key West tonight

90 miles to Hemingway
Just across the stream
Lookin’ at El Morro’s lights
Life is what it means
Sippin’ on a cool Mojito
Eating rice and beans
Señoritas on the boulevard
Cuba’s in my dreams

Customs man he comes to tell me
I can’t go that way
And if they find I’ve been to Cuba
They could take my boat away
Doesn’t feel like all the freedoms in the USA
I’m sailing today

90 miles to Hemingway
Tradewinds on the beam
Strolling on the Malecón
Always been my dream
Cuba by the morning light
Havana streets at night
90 miles to Hemingway
If I leave Key West tonight

90 miles to Hemingway
Just across the stream
Lookin’ at El Morro’s lights
Life is what it means
Sippin’ on a cool Mojito
Eating rice and beans
Señoritas on the boulevard
Cuba’s in my dreams

BACK TO YOU
Mike Aiken

There’s a star in a moonless night
And I see it shining bright
Oh darlin’ I’m sailing back to you
I see a sign on a winding road
Through sleepless eyes, which way to go
Oh baby I’m rolling home to you

I can see you standing there, sand on warm skin
The light that’s in your eyes will bring me home again
I can feel it starting ain’t nothing we can do
This hurricane is coming for me and you

Private cove on a private night
Secluded beach and firelight
It’s a party yes a party just for two
The gentle roll of a gentle sea
Pull the anchor and we’re free
Oh come on it’s there for you and me

I can see you standing there, sand on warm skin
The light that’s in your eyes will bring me home again
I can feel it starting ain’t nothing we can do
This hurricane is coming for me and you

There’s a star in a moonless night
And I see it shining bright
Oh darlin’ I’m sailing back to you
Oh darlin’ I’m sailing back to you
Oh darlin’ I’m sailing back to you

NO FISHIN’ POLE
Mike Aiken

She’s gonna catch a big fat striper
She’s gonna get her one today
Once she gets her mind to fishin’
That old boy won’t get away
Yes it’s time to get it together
Down at the fishing hole

She’s gonna catch him with her smile yes
Won’t let go – needs no fishin’ pole
She’s gonna get her where she’s goin’
She’s gonna get her down the road
Won’t let nothing stand in her way
Travel light – no heavy load

Knows this life it is for living
A little work, a little play
Well she knows her love it is for givin’
Gonna give her love – goin’ fishing today

Known this girl since she’s a child
She can chase your blues away
Sister’s just a little wild
Hangs out down Bahamas way
Hippy girl loves hippy living
Met her up Virginia way on the Chesapeake Bay
When she gets her mind to fishin
And showin’ her bait – fish can’t keep away

She’s gonna catch a big fat striper
She’s gonna get her one today
Once she gets her mind to fishin’
That old boy won’t get away
Yes it’s time to get it together
Down at the fishing hole
She’s gonna catch him with her smile yes
Won’t let go – needs no fishin’ pole

FRIEND OF THE DEVIL
Garcia, Dawson, Hunter

Just got back from Reno I was trailed by 20 hounds
Didn’t get to bed last night till morning came around
Set out running but I take my time
Friend of the devil is a friend of mine

I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonight
Ran into the devil baby he loaned me 20 bills
Spent the night in Utah in a cave up in the hills

Set out running but I take my time
Friend of the devil is a friend of mine
I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonight

Went down to the levee babe and the devil caught me there
Took my 20 dollar bills and he vanished in the air
Set out running but I take my time
Friend of the devil is a friend of mine

I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonight
Got a wife in Chino baby and one in Miramichi
First one says she’s got my child but it don’t look like me

Set out running but I take my time
Friend of the devil is a friend of mine
I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonight

Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night
First one’s named sweet Amy D and she’s my heart’s delight
Second one is prison babe, sheriff’s on my trail
And if he ever catches me, I’ll spend my life in jail

Got two reasons why I cry away each lonely night
First one’s named sweet Amy D and she’s my heart’s delight
Second one is prison babe, the Coast Guard’s on my trail
And they ever board this boat, I’ll spend my life in jail

Made it back to Reno babe and I wagered 50 cents
I turned it to 5000 yes and paid back what was lent
Set out running but I take my time
Friend of the devil is a friend of mine

I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonight
Borrow from the devil baby borrow from a friend
The devil will lend you 20 yes and a friend will loan you 10

Set out running but I take my time
Friend of the devil is a friend of mine
I get home before daylight
Just might get some sleep tonight

THIS GUITAR
Mike Aiken

Yesterday caught me thinking
How I ever got this far
Through all the high times and low days
It kept me sane, this guitar

We wandered down some back roads
Where the dust it did fly
Felt so lonesome in the city
Where the concrete touched the sky

She may take you to the ocean
Or to the mountains up high
Worn wood and strings tell the story
But she’ll always get you, she’ll get you by

I’ve played her out of desperation
And I’ve played her out of joy
And with her strings she tells the story
Of this travelin’ boy

She’s sang at some of the best halls
And on street corners too
And if you will just let her
She’ll work her magic right on you

She may take you to the ocean
Or to the mountains up high
Worn wood and strings tell the story
But she’ll always get you, she’ll get you by

Yesterday caught me thinking
How I ever got this far
Through all the high times and low days
It kept me sane, this guitar

We wandered down some back roads
Where the dust it did fly
Felt so lonesome in the city
Where the concrete touched the sky
It kept me sane, this guitar
Love to play, this guitar
This guitar

BACK TO THE BEACH
Mike Aiken, Michael Markure

I don’t care I’m going back to the beach
Throw my cell phone way out of reach
Get me some shrimp have me a beer
It’s time to move on and get the hell out of here

I remember the days I lived by the water
Warm nights on the beach with the fisherman’s daughter
Sittin’ in this car makes me want to shout out loud
Well I got to change this scene
And I’ve got to change it now

I’m stuck here in line I can’t go no faster
Another Monday morning just a traffic disaster
The boss will be screaming, can’t you ever get here on time
One of these days I’m gonna give him a piece of my mind

I don’t care I’m going back to the beach
Throw my cell phone way out of reach
Get me some shrimp have me a beer
It’s time to move on and get the hell out of here

I picked up my mail, you know it ain’t funny
When there’s too many bills yes and not enough money
Making ends meet starts to wear on my mind
Some days I think I’ll take a break
Take a break leave it all behind

I sit at my desk the screensaver calls me
To where the palm trees sway and the wind it blows softly
Then the phone starts to ring and drive me out of my mind
Just gonna pick it up and tell whoever’s on the line
I’ll say

I don’t care I’m going back to the beach
Throw my cell phone way out of reach
Get me some shrimp have me a beer
It’s time to move on and get the hell out of here

I don’t care I’m going back to the beach
Throw my cell phone way out of reach
Get me some shrimp have me a beer
It’s time to move on and get the hell out of here

IF I HAD A BOAT
Lyle Lovett

If I had a boat I’d go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony, I’d ride him on my boat
We would all together go out on the ocean
Said me upon my pony on my boat

And if I were Roy Rogers I’d sure enough stay single
Wouldn’t want to marry some old Dale
I’d just be me and trigger, ridin’ through them movies
I’d buy a boat and on the sea we’d sail

If I had a boat I’d go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony, I’d ride him on my boat
We would all together go out on the ocean
Said me upon my pony on my boat

Now the mystery masked man’s smart, he got himself a Tonto
‘Cause Tonto did the dirty work for free
But Tonto he was smarter, and one day said Kemosabe
Well kiss my ass I bought a boat and I’m goin’ out to sea

If I had a boat I’d go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony, I’d ride him on my boat
We would all together go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat

And if I were like lightning I wouldn’t wear no sneakers
Well I’d come and go wherever I would please
I’d scare them by the light pole
But I would not scare my pony on my boat out on the sea

If I had a boat I’d go out on the ocean
And if I had a pony, I’d ride him on my boat
We would all together go out on the ocean
Me upon my pony on my boat
Me upon my pony on my boat
Me upon my pony on my boat

ONE MORE NIGHT
Mike Aiken

Howlin’ wind, drivin’ rain
Sail this boat through a hurricane
Just to spend one more night with you

Freezin hail, blowin’ snow
I don’t care how far I got to go
I’m gonna spend one more night with you

When I see you everything will be so fine
You look so good, drive me outta my mind

Sail it north, sail it south
East, west and all about this
Compass baby, just to trying to find you

Giant seas, thickest fog
I’m getting’ beat up just like a dog
I don’t care I’m gonna drag my tail to you

When I see you everything will be so fine
You look so good, drive me outta my mind

Just like Ulysses in that old odyssey
I’m tryin’ hard but I can’t get free
I’m gonna keep on workin’ my way back to you

Howlin’ wind, drivin’ rain
Sail this boat through a hurricane
Just to spend one more night with you

Howlin’ wind, drivin’ rain
Sail this boat through a hurricane
Just to spend one more night with you
